Journalist Killed in Chhattisgarh: The brutal murder of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, has sparked outrage across the state. Chandrakar, who had exposed a major road scam, was strangled and later attacked with an axe, causing a fatal head injury. Police have arrested three individuals, including two of his cousins, while a fourth accused, Suresh Chandravanshi, remains at large. The Chhattisgarh government has formed an 11-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by IPS officer Mayank Gurjar, to probe the case. As protests erupted statewide demanding justice, Mukesh was cremated following his postmortem, which confirmed the horrific details of his death.
New revelations were made on Saturday in the case of murder of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. Police have arrested 3 accused Dinesh, Ritesh Chandrakar and Mahendra Ramteke. Out of these, 2 accused are cousins of the deceased. Police has also made another relative Suresh Chandravanshi an accused, but he is absconding.
On the other hand, Mukesh’s postmortem was also conducted today. It was revealed that the journalist was first strangled. Later, he was hit with an axe on his head. This caused a two and a half inch wound on his head.
Mukesh was cremated after the postmortem. Meanwhile, the government has formed an 11-member SIT under the leadership of IPS Mayank Gurjar for investigation. Earlier, throughout the day, protests were held all over Chhattisgarh against the murder of Mukesh.
Road scam is the reason for the murder
The police has not yet issued an official statement in this case. According to police sources, Mukesh had been continuously reporting about the scam in the construction of a road costing more than 100 crores. The work of this road was given to his distant relative. The contractor was angry with these reports.
Journalist Mukesh was missing for 2 days, fellow journalists found his body
- Mukesh was missing from home since 7 pm on 1 January 2025. The next day on 2 January, his brother Yukesh filed a report. The police were constantly tracing Mukesh’s phone. The phone was switched off, but the last location was seen nearby.
. - CCTV footage was also examined, in which Mukesh was last seen in a T-shirt and shorts. Meanwhile, journalists also inquired at different places. The location was traced through Gmail location, in which Mukesh’s last location was seen in Chattanpara of Bijapur. The police investigated on this basis.
. - During the search on Friday, Ritesh Chandrakar’s farm house was found. There is a badminton court here. When journalists reached the location with the police, some new concrete was seen in the old septic tank. This made the journalists suspicious and it was broken. After this, Mukesh’s body was found in the septic tank itself. It took three hours for the police team to break the tank and empty it.
Suresh’s bank account frozen, protests throughout the day
IG Sundarraj told in the press conference that Suresh has also been made an accused, but he is absconding. 3 bank accounts have been frozen. At the same time, bulldozers have also been run on the accused’s hideout. Protests took place throughout the day against this incident.
Journalists blocked Bijapur National Highway-63 for 4 hours. A protest was also held in Raipur. Journalists have demanded that the accused be hanged. Bilaspur, Surguja Press Club have also demanded that the culprits be hanged. On the other hand, Indian Press Club and Women Press Club have also demanded strict punishment for the culprits.
Priyanka Gandhi said- strict action should be taken
Priyanka Gandhi has demanded strict action against the accused. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that Mukesh had exposed the road scam of the department. Corruption is happening here. It is clear that Arun Saw is corrupt.
Deputy CM Vijay Sharma said that why only Congress leaders are involved in every crime? Congress made Suresh Chandrakar an officer. He was given the post of District General Secretary.
