Weather Update : Cold wave and fog continue to wreak havoc in entire North India including Delhi-NCR. However, people are still waiting for the severe cold. There is a yellow and orange alert of fog and cold in many states of North India for Saturday (January 4, 2025) by IMD. The havoc of fog is being seen in many states of North India on Saturday morning.
Cold Wave and Fog Cause Havoc in North India; Delhi AQI at 371, Rain Expected Till January 6
Due to cold, fog and cold wave have had a severe effect in Delhi-NCR, UP, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar of North India. According to the data of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the 24-hour average AQI of Delhi was recorded at 371, which falls in the very poor category. Meanwhile, according to the IMD, due to the western disturbance, there is a possibility of rain with strong winds in the country’s capital Delhi till January 6.
How is the condition of hill states?
- Cold intensifies in hill states like Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh with snowfall and falling temperatures.
- Heavy rain warning issued for Jammu & Kashmir for today and tomorrow.
- Minimum temperatures in Kokernag, Kupwara, and Srinagar may drop to -6°C.
- Clear weather expected in Uttarakhand today, with no fog or cold wave alert; conditions to remain until January 9.
- Himachal Pradesh to experience clear weather today, with light rain and thunder expected on January 5 and 6.
Weather condition of UP
The sky is expected to be clear in most parts of western Uttar Pradesh on January 4. However, light to moderate fog may occur in the late night and morning. Apart from this, the weather will be slightly different in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Along with cold wave, dense fog is expected in the late night and morning.
Due to the intense cold and fog, dense fog conditions and low visibility at Delhi airport have affected all flights. All scheduled flights are getting delayed by half an hour to two and a half hours. Although there is no diversion in landing
due to fog, all airlines have advised their passengers to check the current status of their flights before leaving home.
Heavy fog and cold had an effect on rail traffic
The ongoing cold wave and heavy fog across various parts of North India have caused significant disruptions in rail traffic. With the visibility drastically reduced, approximately 49 trains are running late, with delays ranging from 30 minutes to as much as 5 hours. This has affected many crucial routes, including the Mahabodhi Express and Shramik Shakti Express. Passengers are urged to check the updated train schedules before heading to the station to avoid any inconvenience. The adverse weather conditions are expected to persist, leading to further delays and complications in train services for the coming days.
