Delhi Assembly Elections 2025: Assembly elections in Delhi will be held in a single phase on February 5. The results will be declared on February 8. This information was given by the Election Commission on Tuesday. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that 33 thousand booths have been set up for 1.5 crore voters in the country’s capital. There are 83.49 lakh male and 79 lakh female voters. There are 2.08 lakh new voters. 830 voters are above 100 years of age.
Earlier, the Chief Election Commissioner clarified the allegations of irregularities in the election process with facts for 30 minutes. He said that the allegations of increasing the number of voters and targeting a particular class in the election are wrong. It takes time to finish the election process. The current term of the Delhi Assembly is ending on 23 February. Apart from this, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is retiring on 18 February. Due to this, there is a possibility of completing the election process before 18 February.
The 2020 assembly elections were announced on January 6. Voting for all 70 assembly seats was held in a single phase on February 8, 2020 and the results were declared on February 11.
Election bugle sounded in Delhi
The Election Commission announced the dates for the elections here on Tuesday. Delhi has 70 assembly seats out of which 58 are reserved for general category while 12 seats are reserved for scheduled castes. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that there are a total of 1.55 crore registered voters in Delhi and among them 83.49 lakh are men and 71.74 lakh are women. He said that the number of young voters (20 to 21 years) is 28.89 lakh while the number of youth eligible to vote for the first time is 2.08 lakh. There will be a total of 13,033 polling stations at 2697 places in the capital and 210 of these will be model polling stations. He said that extensive discussions have been held with various law enforcement agencies in connection with the preparations for the Delhi Assembly elections, which also includes security related aspects. There is a triangular contest between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress in the capital Delhi. 36 MLAs are required for majority in the Delhi Assembly.
In 2020, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 62 seats with 53.57% of the vote, while the BJP got 38.51% of the total votes, including 8 seats. At the same time, Congress got 4.26% votes, but the party failed to even open its account. Congress did not get a single seat even in the 2015 elections.
‘No name has been wrongly deleted from the voters list’
On the allegations of irregularities in the voting list, Chief Election Officer Rajiv Kumar said, ‘Many things are being said about the voter list. Many questions are being raised. There was a complaint about deletion of names from the voter list. It is our responsibility to answer every question. An answer is due today. Every question will be answered today. If we look at the data of the last 30 elections, in 15 of them other parties got more votes. There is a process for removing names from the voter list, in which the Election Commission and BLO play an important role. Without this no name can be removed.’ He said that very soon we are going to become a country with 100 crore voters, the total number of voters has crossed 99 crore.
‘The entire EVM process is transparent’
The Election Commission said that elections are being held in a completely fair manner in the country. Unfounded allegations are being leveled against the Election Commission, which have no basis. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said, ‘EVM is completely safe. All EVMs are sealed and sent in front of the agent. Election symbols are inserted in the EVM in front of the party agent. Election symbols are inserted seven to eight days in advance. Every party is informed about this. The entire process of EVM is transparent. No illegal vote can be cast in EVM.’
